In the blow post I have excerpted below, David D. makes three points about men's desire to listen to women rappers.

1. Rap is premised on aspirations, this is why corporate sponsers get involved.

2. "Men" do NOT aspire to be like women, so how can they sing along to women rappers.

3. Nicki is actually NICE because she spits the lyrics a "dude" would but just sped up like a cartoon.

Nicki Minaj's Androgynous Machine

Aspiration drives capitalism. Advertisers have known this for a long time. That's why Gatorade needs us to see Michael Jordan drinking their product. It's why beer commercials show the drinker with the hottest women. It's why we buy GQ magazine even though we know we can't afford half the clothes in the spreads.

As a man, a lot of female's lyrics aren't aspirational. Lil' Kim, Foxy Brown and many of the hyper-sexual rapstresses of the late '90s and today spit lyrics that men are not going to repeat even alone in the comfort of their own car. So, naturally, I'm not going to garner the same enjoyment from listening to and learning the lyrics of…let's say a Trina. Women, though, will still recite the misogynistic lyrics that men spew. It's the same reason my girl has no problem throwing on my jeans while I would never wear an article of a woman's clothing.

Nicki Minaj is a machine. A bionic femcee with a fake butt, tons of surgery and, by most accounts, a fabricated bisexuality. She's nice to look at and spits bars that we're comfortable repeating.when she hops on tracks with guys. Just look at her first lines on "Monster."

"Pull up in the monster
Automobile gangster
With a bad bitch that came from Sri Lanka"

These are men's lyrics just disguised in a voice that sounds like it comes from a Hannah-Barbara cartoon. But make no mistake, she ripped her "Monster" bars to shreds.

Thoughts?
