tangerine trees and marmalade skies: "What was Rihanna thinking?":

radicallyhottoff:

People, this is a question you need to stop fucking asking.

Or, much more specifically — I think it's a pretty good place to start if you see no redeeming value in her song/video with Eminem and approach the question from the standpoint of "clearly she saw something of value here and perceived it…

exactly. and not only that—but can we even ONCE acknoweldge that rihanna is from the r&b/hip/hop genre that gets all the feminists up in a tizzy for being so fucking sexist and misogynist so we can re-fucking-wonder "what she was thinking" in a new context? in other words, can we start from *her* context and experiences and life instead of our pearl clutching feminist context? her world is where the attack on kat stacks just happened recently. maybe she thought supporting a hip/hop man just *talking* about his role in violence against women was a mighty big fucking intervention.

or maybe she thought, i'm gonna get me some name recognition and some cash.

who knows. and who fucking cares. stop looking for easy answers. there aren't any. we need millions of people in a grassroots movement to end violence against women. not one really really fucking perfect spokes person.
