Hiking Trip in the ATL this weekend!

I am planning a beginners hike for those who expressed an interest. Here are the specs about the hike on Sat. Jan 30th. Let me know if you can come. I am really looking forward to sharing the experience. Feel free to invite friends.

HIKING AT SWEETWATER CREEK (JAN. 30)

DESCRIPTION: The White Trail passes through some of the most remote areas of the park west of Sweetwater Creek. It connects to the end of the Red and Blue trails following the rapids as they continue down the creek. We will take the Red trail to make a four mile loop. The Red Trail starts upstream of the New Manchester Mill, following the rapids to the Sweetwater Falls area and is considered more strenuous because of the rocky terrain. This part of the hike runs alongside the white water rapids of Sweetwater Creek.

DIFFICULTY: Easy to Difficult. This is a combination of a couple of different trails. Since this is a beginner's hike there will always be the opportunity to shorten the hike or turn back. You are encouraged to hike at your own comfortable pace.

LENGTH: The hike should take anywhere from 2.5 - 4 hrs. We plan to have lunch together after the hike at one of the picnic areas if weather permits. We will hike at a comfortable pace between 1.5 to 2 miles/hr.

BRING: Lunch, snacks, water. Dress in layers avoiding cotton clothing. Wear sturdy walking/hiking footwear. Feel free to bring a camera, hiking poles, raingear (watch the forecast, I hike rain or shine) hat & gloves just in case it is cold.

MEET: We will meet in the parking lot of Sweetwater Creek State Park at 9:30 am.
From I-20W exit #44 at Thornton Road, turn south and go 1/4 miles. Turn right on Blairs Bridge Road. After 2 miles, turn left on Mount Vernon Road. Turn left on Factory Shoals Rd. from Mt. Vernon Rd., less than a quarter mile south of Cedar Terrace Rd. and follow the sign to the hiking trails (Nature Trails) and Interpretive Center. Address: Sweetwater Creek State Park,
1750 Mt. Vernon Road, Lithia Springs, GA 30122
