Threads 2010: a Leadership and Organizing School

Dear Friends,

Highlander is now accepting applications for Threads 2010: a
Leadership and Organizing School. Threads is a multi-racial, intergenerational
leadership program designed to help groups in the South and Appalachia :

• strengthen grassroots community –based organizing
• build multi-racial and multi-issue relationships and analysis among participants
• increase capacity for intergenerational organizing
• connect to each other to build a stronger broad based movement for
social and economic justice
• develop skills, collective leadership and democratic participation for
long-term movement building
Threads 2010 will focus on economic justice, a system or set of values that
• prioritizes social welfare over profits
• is based on solidarity, mutualism and cooperation
• is equitable in all dimensions, including: race, ethnicity, nationality, class, gender,
sexuality
• is sustainable
• ties economic and social/political democracy
