BGLH will be teaming up with Rebecca of the amazing vintage blog, B. Vikki Vintage, to provide snapshots of natural hair and Black hair culture in previous decades. These photos are of the same woman, Veronica Jones, a year apart. That she went from relaxed to a perfectly coifed fro between 1968 and 1969 speaks to the changing era. The Black is Beautiful movement was gaining ground, Say It Loud, I'm Black and I'm Proud had just come out and people were adjusting their lifestyles and hairstyles to reflect the attitude of the day. The photos above are from the book The Way We Wore by Michael McCollom.

The two ads below are from a 1960 issue of Ebony Magazine and they show a woman soaking wet with straight hair along with the copy, "Your hair can't revert!"…
B. Vikki Vintage features advertising campaigns and fashion editorials from Black/African-American publications, video clips and found photographs featuring people of color from the 1950s-1960s, as well as product descriptions and pictures of vintage pieces.
